Let me just start off by saying that I have been there and done that, just like most of you. I tried diets, calorie counting, weight doctors, pills, hypnotherapy, starvation, excessive exercise, and the list goes on. I also experienced the emotional baggage that comes with gaining and losing weight. There are some memories you just can’t forget and some words spoken that can’t ever be taken back.


After looking at a picture of myself, I was mortified at the person I saw. I didn’t even know who that person was! Though I knew I was getting heavier, I masked my embarrassment with humor. I figured if I was going to stand out in the crowd, I would control the situation by making people laugh. Unfortunately, the laughter only lasted a short while. Food was the only consistent thing in my life, besides the promise that the weight would always come back. I was exhausted and felt completely hopeless.

I knew I had to do something and not just anything (because I had already tried that). This time, the weight had to stay off. I couldn’t imagine battling this for the rest of my life and I knew that would my future if I didn’t do something about it. Before my Lap-Band, I weighed 236 pounds and wore a 22/24. After almost three years I’ve lost 100 pounds and I have never felt better! For the first time in my life I actually feel full and satisfied. Those words were foreign to me!

My desire is for others to find the joy in living your life the way you were meant to live it. Waking up each day not thinking about your next meal, pretending you didn’t hear that comment, wondering if you can sit in that seat, thinking you may never get off that medication, or hoping you’ll be able to watch your kids and grand kids grow up. There is so much peace in knowing that you are no longer a slave to food and that each day that passes is a healthier and happier one.
